“ The Mountains are Calling & I Must Go ” – John Muir, 1873
One hundred miles east of El Paso, a mountain range resembling a spearhead pierces the Texas-New Mexico border. Guadalupe Mountains are home to nine of the ten tallest peaks in Texas. When traveling along state highway 54, you are greeted by one of these arid giants, El Capitan, a limestone peak that towers over the Chihuahuan Desert. Overshadowing El Capitan is Guadalupe Peak, the highest point in Texas. Ascending the peak is a unique experience and the higher elevations provide breathtaking views over the desert landscape.
